<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong><br />
<em>&#8220;It was Sunday night and I set my alarm for 5:30 AM.  I went to bed early and was feeling great about getting up to go for a run the next morning.  But then….when the alarm went off, I looked out the window&#8230;. and saw it was snowing.  Dang! </em><em>L</em><em> Here we go again! I don&#8217;t get it!  As soon as I try to start getting back on track, nature conspires against me and I can&#8217;t even take the first step.  EESh!”</em></strong></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">Sound familiar?  Have you ever felt this way?  (It’s totally not your fault, if you do).<strong></p>
<p></strong>I know the feeling. But unlike my friend, I chose not to stay there because the Body Knowledge techniques I created helped me out.</span></p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span></strong>: Is this her usual strategy with you so you pay attention?</p>
<p><strong>Cathe</strong>: Yes, as I look back in time, she gets my attention with weight gain.  Now I know the stress brought on by this presentation is not about my kids, it’s all about me—and my fear of success. But stage fright?  Now?  At my age?</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW:</span></strong> How can you and your body be more comfortable with your speeches and bringing your talents to an audience that respects you and wants to get to know you?</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> Not sure. I was a speech major in college, for goodness sakes!</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> What’s different about this presentation?</p>
<p><strong>Cathe</strong>: A really BIG promotion is tied to my success…or f-f-f-failure in front of everybody!</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW</strong></span>: AND?</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> I am sooooooooo afraid of failure!</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> What does your body tell you? Is she afraid you’ll fail?</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> Uh, I haven’t asked her…yet.</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> There’s no time like the present&#8212;Let’s put down the phone and start moving, practicing your dance.</p>
<p><em>[A thud, the sound of fabric, some humming, a growl of disgust, a stomp then] </em></p>
<p><strong>Cathe’s voice</strong>: Nada, nothing, zip, zero. She’s not talking and I need a confidence boost from someone, somewhere…please</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> Oh, she’s talking all right&#8212;keep listening. Was your practice easy, flowing, or hurky-jerky, stiff and forced?</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> (a long pause) The last part&#8212;it was more like the elephant dance than swan lake…</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> Ok, How about: Take a very deep breath, all the way down your abdomen, pause, then let it out through pursed lips oh, so, slowly. Then think of, “Hail to the Chief” or “Jump” or “When the Saints Come Marching In…” and practice your dance.</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> (doubtfully) Okay….what are you going to do?</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> Move, of course!</p>
<p><em> few moments later.</em></p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> Ahhhh…I, er, we feel so much better! Up, lighter, and optimistic! I’m even looking forward to the presentation!</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong> SW:</strong></span> Your body is always there to support you…you are never alone, because your body shares your feelings and awaits your communication with her, so that she can share her confidence, her knowledge of you, and will always give you the boost you need to do what’s best for you!</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> I feel like Rocky on the steps of the Philly Museum&#8212;</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> Fortunately you don’t LOOK like Sly Stallone…</p>
<p><strong>Cathe:</strong> Thank you. I feel good, really good about me today…and with further conversation with my BFF, we’ll get there confidently and FEEL great about our presentation! I will call you when I get home.</p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #000080;">SW</span>:</strong> So where do you want more clarity today?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> (happily) I, uh, “we” accepted the offer, and we’re going on the cruise.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #000080;">SW</span>:</strong> So what did you do differently from the last time we spoke?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> (with confidence) I moved more, and paid attention while moving.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #000080;">SW</span>:</strong> And?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong><a href="http://www.bodyawe.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/womanbizdancing.jpg"><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-2562" title="womanbizdancing" src="http://www.bodyawe.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/womanbizdancing.jpg" alt="Dance your Dance" width="90" height="134" /></a>Cathe:</strong></span> It’s not just about moving for motion’s sake…it’s about <em>meaningful</em> motion with intention. My dance, practicing it, not perfecting it, you know?</p>
<p><span style="color: #000080;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> (with humor) So sit-ups aren’t part of your practice?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> (laughs) They belong in my fitness program, not in my practice! When my body and I dance our dance, we move meaningfully and then we can hear what each other is saying. We exchange information through graceful, free flowing motions…that’s when I know this system is working.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000080;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> How did this conflict lead to a better understanding?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> Well, quite frankly conflict brought me to more understanding of knowing what she wanted for me at the same time what I wanted for myself. I thought about my choices during our practice. It was neat to notice how my mind &amp; body considered our options, the advantages and the disadvantages of going or not going, helping me make <em>our</em> decision.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000080;"><strong>SW:</strong></span> (curious) Did the answer come quickly?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> (laughs) No way! My body was pissed at me for neglecting her in the most meaningful way…not consulting with her when the issue first came up. Instead, I excluded her.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #000080;">SW</span>:</strong>  (verifying) By keeping it to yourself, in your head?</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> My mind focused on what I knew to do: to eat less and move more. She sure fooled me, didn’t she?</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #000080;">SW</span>:</strong> She did a great job of getting your attention by making you feel uncomfortable in your clothes.</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe: </strong></span>(knowingly) Communicating in the only way she knew how, now that we had lost touch with each other. Separating myself from her, being unaware of her, and not bothering to listen to her input came from <strong>my </strong>head… not <strong>her </strong>heart.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000080;"><strong>SW: </strong></span>(smiling) Her heart is <strong>your </strong>heart. <strong>Your </strong>head is her head.</p>
<p><span style="color: #800000;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span> Next week, I want to explore how to gain more confidence with my cruise presentation.<strong><br />

I’ve eased up on the crash dieting; and I’m still moving more; and I haven’t gained any more weight as of this morning; and I still can’t get more than one leg into my power suit pants. (laughing and crying) AND I can’t make up my mind to go or not to go…in spite of encouragement from my boss to accept the offer to speak.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:</strong><em>     Consider this: is this about your body or your job, your potential promotion?</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe</strong><em>:  </em></span>Huh?</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:     </strong></span><em>If your zipper zipped, what would you do?</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>(a pause, then) I’d go on the cruise!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:     </strong><em>(silence)</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>My pants fit fine last month&#8212;<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:     </strong><em>And what’s changed since then?</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>The offer…OMG, THEY&#8217;RE CONNECTED! My body gained weight as soon as my boss mentioned this wonderful professional opportunity….<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:     </strong><em>And?</em></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #003300;">Cathe</span>:  </strong>(Amazed) I never thought I was afraid of success, is that what she’s saying?<br />
<strong><br />
<span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:     </strong><em>She is <strong>your</strong> body. I encourage you to just ask her </em><em>J</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>Ok, ok. I admit it: I felt the stress and may have misunderstood her message.<strong></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:     </strong></span><em>Weight gain is one response to <a href="http://www.bodyawe.com/2011/04/25/what-is-cortisol-and-why-is-it-making-me-fat/">stress</a>.</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>The “C” word, <a href="http://www.bodyawe.com/2011/04/25/what-is-cortisol-and-why-is-it-making-me-fat/">cortisol</a>, right? (LAUGH)<strong></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:     </strong></span><em>Right. Whatever, your body’s reaction to stress, weight gain or loss, indicates your body’s need for attention from you. Let’s give your head a break and move your body around your room.</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>Ok&#8212;give me a minute.<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:     </strong><em>As you have noticed in the past moving creates communication between your head and your body.</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>Puts the phone down and we hear rustling of fabric, motion, a giggle and then…</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #003300;">Cathe</span>:  </strong>Ok, I feel better, but I still don’t have an answer…</p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>SW:     </strong></span><em>I encourage you to keep communicating with her and you will receive the right answer from both of you, for both of you. So how will you do that more often?</em></p>
<p><span style="color: #003300;"><strong>Cathe:  </strong></span>(smiling with hope) Well, I certainly will have plenty of opportunity to move and hear her requests Ha!</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">SW</span>:     </strong><em>(smiling for her) It sounds like this process is getting easier and you are making it fun! .As you keep experiencing more movement, your decisions will become clear. To communicate with your body, practice your dance—ask the questions and listen for the answer.</em><strong></p>

<p>Cathe is a normally shy person but professionally successful single mother who shares the same struggles as the rest of us. By opening up her process to getting the happiness she wants and deserves, she feels others will benefit by knowing they are not alone&#8212;and what better time to begin than the New Year.</p>

<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe:</strong> </span>  I eat all the right things, I take the steps instead of elevators, and I move my body AND I <em><span style="text-decoration: underline;">feel</span></em> gross, I FEEL FAT!!! I counted every calorie; I parked in the farthest spot in my office lot; kept accurate records of every calorie I burned at the gym; <em>and</em> I wrote down how full I felt after every meal&#8212;as if, lettuce, celery and fat free salad dressing can be considered a “meal”? !</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:</strong> </span> <em>Ok, what happened last week that was different?</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span>  How can I appear as the keynote speaker on the annual company cruise when my power suit zips up my muffin top?</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:  </strong></span><em>So, what is your body trying to tell you?</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe:</strong> </span> (a slight whine) I am fat?  My head, my calorie calculator, indicates I’m starving.</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:   </strong></span><em>Is this about your body,  or about speaking on the company cruise?</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe</strong>: </span> ( pause) In spite of everything I know about calories in, energy out, my body gains weight when I <em>really, really</em> need to lose a few to look my best on the speaker’s platform…Professionally this is a great opportunity,  a plus…a promotion.</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:  </strong></span><em>And personally?</em><em></em></p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #0000ff;">Cathe</span>:</strong>  (long pause) My kids.  I’ll miss my daughter’s basketball playoffs…and my son’s Parents’ Weekend at the University…</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:   </strong></span><em>I hear you. The sadness in your voice. About  not being there for your children.</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe</strong></span>:  I’m the sole support for them…I need to go on that cruise!</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:</strong> </span> <em>(laughing) If the cruise was to the Gulag would you still feel so ambivalent?</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe</strong></span>:  (a pause, then a hoot) Honestly? No.</p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:        </strong></span><em>That’s your body speaking, right?</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe:</strong></span>  Yes…<strong><em>my body always speaks the truth.</em></strong><strong></strong></p>
<p><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Coach Stephanie:  </strong></span><em>Of course she does.</em><em></em></p>
<p><span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>Cathe:</strong> </span> Oh! Its 5 minutes to the hour…what do I do?</p>

But then reality set in.  In fact, it hit me over the head.  Standing in line after line, in the cold rain, in the dark alleys, always thinking, “This time it’ll be different . . . this time I’ll get the job.”<br />
But every time . . . the loud faceless voice came from behind the lights and yelled, “GET OFF MY STAGE! …NEXT”.</p>
<h4 align="center"><span style="color: #3366ff;"><strong>Now THAT is rejection&#8212; Is it any wonder we all fear it?</strong></span></h4>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">Humiliated and discouraged…decided that I’d had enough.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">I wasn’t myself anymore.  I was sad, I was tired, and I was hungry.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">But there was NO WAY I was giving up on my dream of dancing, performing and choreographing. Then something inside told me, “<em>You can make your dreams come true…just try it somewhere else.”</em></span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">So, I did.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">So I created choreographed dance/exercise routines held in Churches/ Temples/ Elks Clubs and Hotel conference rooms where I could have dance studios all over New Jersey and within a few months, I was leading hundreds of women to find the <span style="color: #3366ff;"><strong>dancer inside themselves</strong></span>.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">They were able to express who they were, in a safe place, without ANY fear of rejection.</span><br />
<span style="color: #000000;"> They were getting fit and being happy with no outside judgment; pure bliss for them on the dance floor of life.</span></p>

<p>Q.  What’s the difference between my “body brain” and my “brain brain”?</p>
<p>A.  When my client referred to her “body brain” on the audio, she referred to her body’s intelligence&#8212; the essence of my system.  When we respect our body’s innate intelligence; learn to access and share it; learn to communicate back and forth, we will co-create a body knowledge system that works for you.</p>

Others are PRO-ACTORS, the pioneers, the seekers who keep trying any and everything until they find something that works&#8212;for a while.
